Forces & Motion

Everything that moves, stops, speeds up, slows down, or changes shape does it because of a force. And here's the whole secret of forces, the bit that took humans thousands of years to figure out:

a force is just a push or a pull.

That's it. A kick, a throw, a hug, a magnet, the Earth tugging an apple to the ground — every single one is a push or a pull. Once you can spot them, physics starts to make sense.

Try it. Choose a direction and drag the strength up: the bigger the arrow, the bigger the force — and the further the box shifts. An arrow is how physicists draw a force, and a longer arrow always means a stronger push or pull.

Your first physics adventures

Start with Pushes and Pulls, then meet the forces hiding all around you: friction that slows things down, gravity that pulls everything down, the strange pull of magnets, and what happens when forces have a tug-of-war.
